How to turn phone photos of receipts and documents into one PDF

Photograph receipts, forms or ID documents with your phone and combine them into a tidy PDF for your accountant or claims.

Updated 2 October 2026

You don't need a scanner to keep tidy records. A phone photo of a receipt, invoice or form is enough, as long as it ends up in one readable PDF that you can file or send to your accountant.

Take good photos

  • Lay the document flat on a dark, plain surface in good daylight.
  • Hold the phone directly above it so the page is not slanted.
  • Fill the frame with the document and keep it in focus; tap the screen to focus.
  • Avoid flash on glossy paper, which causes glare.

Combine them into one PDF

  1. Open JPG / PNG to PDF.
  2. Select the photos in the order you want the pages.
  3. Pick A4 or US Letter with a small margin, and download the PDF.

Photos taken on phones are rotated correctly automatically. If the PDF is too large to email, run it through Compress PDF at the "Smallest file" level; receipts remain perfectly readable.

Keep a simple routine

Create one PDF per month for expense receipts and name it clearly, for example 2026-10 receipts.pdf. At year end your bookkeeping is twelve files, not a shoebox.
